My mom, siblings and I all delivered The Dubois Co. Herald for 10 years total. At age ten, I successfully persuaded my mom to let me take over.
Here’s an archive from The Herald where my boss’s adopted daughter had been intentionally injured by her tennis coach, and my regular biology teacher, Scott Yarbrough.
In 2005, I started working at McDonalds at the age of fifteen. I had had my paper route but my brother Alex said he wanted to take it over and I was so busy with my extra-curriculars that I was subbing out my route to him and our sisters so I could stay after school for my flute lessons and other activities.
Making only $5.15 then $5.25 per hour, I sought better pay and found out my cousin was working at Subway. I talked to my mom and got the job there through my aunt since she knew the Indian owners.
Most people would call this a coincidence.
A sore arm? Isn’t that “normal” for tennis players?
The year before this article, The Herald sports writer had done a column devoted to Payal’s journey from being a junior high tennis player at a private school that played on the high school team in Hopkinsville, KY.
